Overview
Cancer Trials Australia (CTA) is a highly effective member based clinical trial network and site service organization, which has provided clinical trial administrative support to its member hospitals for over 30 years. Since its inception in 1993, CTA has administered the start-up and management of over 2,200 oncology clinical trials, sponsored by over 300 different organizations, that have recruited in excess of 14,000 patients.
CTA administers oncology clinical trials that range from first-time-in-human trials to large scale Phase III trials. With 36 members throughout all major Australian states and New Zealand, collaboration provides the perfect opportunity for sponsors to conduct multi-site clinical trials, accruing significant patient numbers quickly, despite Australia’s relatively small population.
Australia is recognized as a hub for early phase clinical trials, ranking #3 in the world for initiation of such trials. The vast majority of those trials are sponsored by international biotech and pharmaceutical companies. CTA has an established Phase I Group and our members conduct almost all Phase 1 oncology trials undertaken within Australia. This unique clinical group includes key opinion leaders who can review pre-clinical trial data and quickly offer impartial recommendations regarding study design, strategy, and relevant submissions. CTA is capable of facilitating Phase I trials across all tumour types, in tumour-specific or molecular-target-specific studies.
Over recent years Cancer Trials Australia has expanded beyond oncology to now support our members in any therapeutic area. We are conveniently situated in the state-of-the-art Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Melbourne.
